1907

G Kuppuswamy Naidu, the founder of The Lakshmi Mills Company Limited establishes a small ginning factory at Naranapuram, Coimbatore with two Gins operated by bullocks for motive power.

1910

The Lakshmi Mills Co. Ltd is founded with a registered capital of one lakh rupees. The main business is cotton ginning and trading.

1911

GK Devrajulu (Kuppuswamy’s first-born) is born on the 26th of October.

1929

Pykara Electric Power comes to Coimbatore and brings with it the growth of textile mills in the area. G Kuppuswamy Naidu promotes Coimbatore Cotton Mills Ltd. at Singanallur in partnership with R Bheema Naidu, Rangaswamy Naidu and others.

1932

He is also instrumental in promoting the Rajalakshmi Mills Ltd. At the 23rd Annual General Meeting of The Lakshmi Mills Co. Ltd., a proposal to construct a spinning mill with 11,600 spindles at Coimbatore is approved. The authorised capital is raised from 1 lakh to 6 lakhs.

1938

The Coimbatore unit with 11,600 spindles begins functioning.

1941

The Kovilpatti unit comes into production in Thirunelveli district. Initial spindleage is 7,776.

1942

On the 17th of December, G Kuppuswamy Naidu passes on.

1948

The Kuppuswamy Naidu Charity Trust is registered.

1950

194 looms are installed at the Coimbatore unit and weaving begins.

1952

The G Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Hospital for Women and Children is built in Pappanaickenpalayam, Coimbatore. United Bleachers Limited comes into existence.

1954

Kovilpatti ‘B’ Mill is constructed and total spindles increase to 50,000. Mani High School (opposite the hospital) comes into existence.

1959

The Palladam branch is started with a modern spinning mill with 22,000.

1962

Lakshmi signs a partnership with Rieter, Switzerland. Lakshmi Machine Works is formed.

1963

Lakshmi Card Clothing Limited begins operations.

1966

The G Venkataswamy Naidu College (an arts college) begins at Kovilpatti.

1979

Coimbatore Cotton Mills merges with The Lakshmi Mills Co. Ltd. and is called the Singanallur unit of Lakshmi Mills.

Loom division commences.
